Detachment A-331, 1st SFGA

A-331, commanded by Capt Charles Mendoza, was located at Tinh Gien, Chau Doc Province, IV CTZ, during the period 6 November 1964 thru 30 April 1965. Initially, the Detachment was given the mission of advising and assisting the LLDB in the conduct of border surveillance. During the last three months, the Detachment was one of the two test Detachments in IV CTZ given the additional mission of advising the local Vietnamese District and his Regional-Popular Force troops in military and civic action matters. The initial program had no provisions for basic training but concentrated on advising the troops during actual combat operations.**
