* "Camp Plei Djereng A-251in II Corps. I arrived at the camp in early 1966. It was a triangle shaped camp in the forks of two rivers, northwest of Pleiku and west of Plei Mrong. There were real high mountains on the east side of the river.
The VC would register their mortars on the camp weekly before going to hit Pleiku. In late 1966 we selected a new site south about ten miles and built a new star shaped camp. When we built the new camp Cpt. Peters was the Team Leader and MSG Mickey Meehan was the Team Sergeant. I was a Buck Sergeant and the Heavy Weapons Sergeant." [Johnny Matthews]
** "Cpt. John Noakes was the CO with Msgt Rocky Lane as the team NCO." [John Shepard]
*** "I, Maurice N Moore, then Captain, and CO Det A-251, 66 - 67, recommended camp relocation, selected the site and supervised constructions of what was the first Special Forces fighting camp (New Plei Djereng). MSG Lewis R.'Smoky" Taylor was the Team Sergeant. A check on the chronological listing of team members will verify my comments. Another SF Captain, I believe his name was Foster, was assigned to mind the store at the old camp while I was putting the finishing touches on New Plei Djereng." [Maurice Moore nealm@charter.net ]
